Statewide tourism industry announces unanimous endorsement

Charleston, W.Va. — This evening at the Charleston Marriott, hundreds of friends and supporters from across the state and all sides of the political spectrum hosted a “friendraiser” event for U.S. Senator Joe Manchin, who is running for a second full term in the United States Senate in 2018.

Joined by his wife, Gayle, Senator Manchin said, “West Virginians are tired of political fighting. We’re tired of elected leaders who put politics over people. When I look around this room, I see people from all backgrounds and beliefs — but I don’t see Republicans, Democrats or Independents. I see Wet Virginians who care about our future. Bringing people together is the only way we will move our state ahead. That is exactly what I’m fighting for in Washington, and it is exactly what my campaign will be about.”

As part of the event, the West Virginia Hospitality and Travel Association announced that its board recently voted unanimously to endorse Manchin’s candidacy for re-election, signaling broad support of his ongoing efforts to boost economic activity through tourism in the Mountain State.

“From his time as West Virginia’s Governor to his position in the United States Senate, Joe Manchin has never wavered in his belief in the power of tourism to make our state stronger and better,” said Carol Fulks, WVHTA Executive Director. “We are proud to be his first official endorsement, and we look forward to working with him for another six years to bring opportunity, business and excitement to West Virginia.”

This evening’s friendraiser, which included remarks from former Governors Gaston Caperton and Earl Ray Tomblin, yielded Manchin’s strongest level of donations to date. A full update on the Manchin campaign’s fundraising efforts will be released in the coming weeks.
