CHARLESTON, WV — Today, over eighty business leaders across West Virginia who represent a wide array of industries are announcing the launch of “Business Leaders for Manchin.” The founding members of the group, made up of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents, are confident that the organization will rapidly grow due to Manchin’s track record of getting results for the business community. The job creators who have built companies in West Virginia are supporting Manchin because of his record and commitment to helping both workers and businesses thrive.

During Manchin’s tenure as governor, more than 240 companies located or expanded in West Virginia, and businesses invested over $13 billion. Under Manchin’s watch, a $235 million tax burden was removed from local businesses.

Manchin fixed the broken old workers’ comp system that was losing $1 million a day and had an unfunded liability of $3 billion. Today, thanks to Joe’s efforts, the total debt had been reduced to just $29 million. Not only did Joe’s fiscal stewardship save taxpayers money, it helped West Virginia businesses by lowering workers’ compensation premium costs by 70% since 2006. (MetroNews, Dec. 2017)

Before he entered public service, Joe Manchin was a small business owner in North Central West Virginia. As Senator he’s hosted dozens of job fairs across the state to connect employees with talented West Virginians.

As Senator, Joe Manchin has continued to bring jobs to the state, by creating opportunities and recruiting jobs.  He is the Honorary Chair of the Discover the Real WV Foundation, an organization of business leaders who recruit jobs to West Virginia. He also has co-hosted 35 job fairs across the state, linking West Virginians up directly with employers and job building resources.

“Joe is a straight shooter. He is working to make sure that West Virginians have the education and skills to be competitive, and understands what local companies need in order to grow and stay in our state,” said Arria Hines, CEO of Allegheny Science & Technology.

Dave Arnold, owner of Adventures on the Gorge, said, “Joe makes West Virginia businesses proud because he is an independent thinker and is always doing what he can to promote West Virginia tourism. He sees the potential in our state and opportunities we have to create tourism jobs.”

Dave Alvarez, owner of Applied Construction Solutions, said, “Joe owned a business before he got into public service and he gets us. Joe understands what it takes to grow a local company and put people to work. This isn’t about political party, it’s about what’s best for West Virginians and having a U.S. Senator we can work with.”

“Joe never forgot where he came from,” said Dana Summers, the owner of Craft Connection. “The leadership of Joe Manchin has lured businesses to West Virginia. Joe’s willingness to listen to his constituents and work with both Democrats and Republicans shows that he will always do what’s best for West Virginia.”

“Before Joe helped privatize workers’ comp in this state, the system was terrible, and it was really one of the great job killers in West Virginia,” said Gat Caperton, owner of Gat Creek American Made Furniture. “Today, with a privatized workers’ comp system, people are getting real care, employers are getting support at a fair price, and the state is financially better off with it in place.”

“I’ll always do what’s best for the state, and what’s best for West Virginia is new opportunities for workers to earn an honest paycheck and the companies they work for to expand,” said U.S. Senator Joe Manchin. “I’m proud to have strong support from both business and labor. When we all work together, nothing is impossible.”
