CHARLESTON, WV — Today, the Manchin for West Virginia campaign released episode 2 of the I Know Joe web series. It focuses on Senator Manchin’s commitment to West Virginia’s Veterans. Roger Champ, a decorated Vietnam Veteran from Moorefield, WV, shares his thoughts on Joe’s work to help service members and their families.
“I know Joe and he is a friend of all Veterans,” said Roger Champ. “Joe cuts through the red tape to get Veterans the help they need. He listens, and his word is as good as gold. I’m proud to call him my senator because Joe doesn’t care about political party; all he cares about is doing what’s best for West Virginia and my fellow Veterans.”
Last November, Manchin presented Roger Champ with a long-overdue Purple Heart. Manchin and his team worked with the Army to get Roger the Purple Heart he earned in Vietnam. Roger Champ remains very active in the Veterans community.
During his military career, Champ earned the Silver Star for gallantry in action, the Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with a Silver Service Star, the Korea Defense Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal VSM, the Expert Marksmanship Badge, three overseas bars for each of his deployments to Vietnam, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with a Gold Star, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with a Palm Unit Citation.
