Charleston, W.Va. — The Political Action Committee (PAC) of the West Virginia Hospitality & Travel Association (WVHTA), the official voice of food service, lodging, convention and visitor bureaus, and travel industries in the state, has given Joe Manchin his first big endorsement for his re-election to the U.S. Senate in 2018. The WVHTA PAC recently voted unanimously on the endorsement, signaling broad support of Manchin’s years-long and ongoing work to boost economic activity through tourism in the Mountain State.

“From his time as West Virginia’s Governor to his position in the United States Senate, Joe Manchin has never wavered in his belief in the power of tourism to make our state stronger and better,” said Carol Fulks, WVHTA Executive Director. “We are proud to be his first official endorsement, and we look forward to working with him for another six years to bring opportunity, business and excitement to West Virginia.”

As U.S. Senator, Manchin has championed bipartisan legislation, the Appalachian Forest National Heritage Act, that will allow West Virginia and Maryland to work together through the government and private sectors to conserve and promote natural beauty and cultural heritage for new economic opportunities tied to tourism. As Governor, he strongly supported West Virginia’s state parks and trails, along with other business-driven tourism development.

This announcement came last Friday evening, as hundreds of friends and supporters from across the state and all sides of the political spectrum hosted a “friendraiser” for Manchin. Additional details on the campaign, including staffing and fundraising updates, will be announced in the coming weeks.
